Lot 9C Soul Food Kitchen didn’t start with a business plan. It started with the smell of something good on the stove, a full pot, and an open door for anyone who stopped by.
Our founder grew up raised by two grandmothers — at two different times in life, in two different homes, but with the very same spirit. Both of them shared one deep love: cooking, and sharing that food with the community around them.
In their kitchens, no one ever went hungry. Neighbours, family, friends — and even random passersby who happened to be walking down the road — were waved in, sat down, and handed a plate. It was never really about money. It was about care. About making sure anyone who crossed the threshold left full and felt seen.
“I had the privilege of growing up with two grandmothers at two separate times in my life, but one thing they both had in common — they loved cooking and sharing with the community, or even a random passerby. That’s where I found my love for cooking and my passion for sharing. That’s how the name ‘Soul Food’ was born. I want to share what I’ve learned — cooking with love — and share it with a wider community. Not for the money only, but providing authentic home-cooked meals to anyone who wishes to stop by.”

That’s where our founder’s passion for cooking and sharing was born — watching two grandmothers turn simple ingredients into something that brought a whole community together. The name “Soul Food” isn’t a marketing line for us. It’s a memory, and a promise.
Today, Lot 9C carries that legacy forward from our kitchen in Braeton, Portmore. We cook authentic, home-cooked meals the long way — brined, simmered, and seasoned with love — and we share them with the wider community. Not just for the customers who order, but for anyone who stops by hungry. Because that’s what our grandmothers would have done.
